It has a turnover of about 20 million € with more than 300 collaborators and is divided into the four research areas “Autonomies”, “Health”, “Mountains”, and “Technologies”. In the past 10 years Eurac participated in approx. 70 projects. At present it is involved both as coordinator and partner in more than 30 projects funded within various EU programmes.
The Institute for Renewable Energy works mainly in the field of system integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions for buildings. The activities range from monitoring over numerical simulation to laboratory testing. The Institute for Renewable Energy is internally structured in four research groups: (i) Energy Management in Buildings (with focus on NZEBs and historic buildings); (ii) Photovoltaic Systems (with focus on BIPV and performance analysis of PV modules); (iii) Solar Thermal Systems (with focus on solar heating and cooling systems); and (iv) Energy Strategies and Planning (with focus on integration of energy strategies on urban and regional scale).
